CopernicusLAC Chile promotes regional space innovation ecosystem at launch of LAC DGI program

On Tuesday, November 18, Team Europe’s Green and Digital Innovation Action (LAC DGI)—co-financed by the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the French Development Agency (AFD), and Expertise France (EF)—held an inspiring session to launch the strengthening and support program aimed at technology start-ups in the region.

The selected startups were chosen through a rigorous evaluation process of digital prototypes aimed at promoting climate resilience and sustainable development, with a special focus on Colombia, Chile, and Panama. These initiatives represent new technological capabilities that can contribute to addressing urgent needs related to climate change, land management, and environmental planning.

In this instance, Chile became a strategic point for promoting public-private collaboration around Earth Observation (EO). From CopernicusLAC Chile, this coordination is key to advancing toward a cohesive and dynamic regional space ecosystem, especially aimed at strengthening work with SMEs, supporting new developments, and scaling innovative solutions based on satellite data.

The session brought together representatives from the beneficiary startups and Business Support Organizations (BSOs)—incubators that will accompany these companies’ growth process—thus consolidating an essential support network for the sector’s development. It also featured the participation of strategic partners in the country, including the European Union Delegation in Chile and the CopernicusLAC Chile Center, which highlighted their role as regional coordinators in promoting new opportunities in innovation, the use of spatial data, and climate solutions.

This event marks a milestone for CopernicusLAC Chile and for the region, reaffirming the importance of coordinating initiatives that strengthen technology transfer, encourage innovation, and harness the potential of Earth observation for sustainable development. With this launch, scalable digital solutions and an increasingly robust and connected Latin American space ecosystem are projected.
