The speaker for this session is Cristian Araya-Cornejo, academic at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC); geographer from the Universidad de Chile, Master in Environment from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, and PhD candidate in Geography at PUC. In this session, Cristian will present the topic “Holocene Evolution of the Arauco Gulf Coast in the Context of the Seismic Cycle and Climate Change”.

During the session he will share a study on the Holocene evolution of the Arauco Gulf coast in Chile’s Biobío Region. Using a combination of fieldwork and remote sensing techniques — including satellite imagery, GPR and LiDAR — the research identifies distinct phases in the coastline’s development, primarily driven by the seismic cycle and climate change.
