The speaker for this session is Pedro Walfir, a geologist with a PhD in Coastal Geology and Remote Sensing from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Brazil. He has been a professor at the UFPA Institute of Geosciences since 2002 and has held the position of Full Professor since 2018. He has also worked as an associate researcher and was the principal investigator for the RADARSAT and ALOS PALSAR programmes.

In this session, Pedro will present the topic “Mapping, monitoring, and estimating mangrove biomass from SAR images.” The talk, which will be delivered in English, will address the use of SAR imagery for mangrove mapping, monitoring, and biomass estimation, as well as explore new perspectives offered by the BIOMASS satellite for the study of these ecosystems.
