Macarena Pérez Attends UN Geospatial Information Experts Meeting

The executive coordinator of CopernicusLAC Chile, Macarena Pérez, participated in the fifteenth session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), held from 6 to 8 August at the UN headquarters in New York, United States. Her presentation addressed the importance of in situ data for the development of models and tools applied to Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition, Macarena Pérez attended two parallel activities. The first was the meeting of the United Nations Regional Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN-GGIM: Americas), an entity of which CopernicusLAC Chile is a member through its academic network.

This meeting, held on 4 August, sought to open a space for dialogue so that member states, thematic networks, working groups and organisations linked to UN-GGIM: Americas could contribute to the new Strategic Plan 2025–2029, within the framework of a transition process that will culminate in the election of a new board of directors.

Meanwhile, the second activity was the session of the Caribbean Geospatial Development Initiative (CARIGEO), which brings together countries in the region to coordinate actions and generate opportunities for collaboration in this area.

CopernicusLAC Chile’s participation in these meetings strengthens its links with international networks and contributes to joint efforts for geospatial development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
