Various factors, such as climate change and land use change, impact vegetation. Understanding their response is key to planning conservation actions. This seminar presents a time series analysis of NDVI, using the Man-Kendall test on Sentinel-2 data on mangrove vegetation, exemplifying its usefulness for monitoring changes in ecosystems and designing continuous monitoring systems.

The speaker at this seminar is Samuel Velázquez, head of the Department of Ecosystem Impact Monitoring at Mexico’s National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO). He is a biologist graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and has been working in the Mexican Mangrove Monitoring System (SMMM) since 2012, applying Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems to the study of these ecosystems. His lines of work include digital mapping, land cover and land use change analysis, anthropization, time series and photointerpretation. He has contributed to scientific and popular publications, specialising in landscape ecology and ecosystem monitoring technologies.
