Saint Lucia is a small island located in the eastern Caribbean and is part of the Lesser Antilles. It has an area of 620 km2 and is considered one of the smallest countries in the world.

It is famous for the Pitons, a pair of jagged mountains that rise from the west coast, which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are visible from virtually anywhere on the island and serve as a distinctive landmark for sailors.

The island is also the only home to the Jacquot , a bird endemic to Saint Lucia. The habitat available to the species has been reduced by approximately 50% since the 1950s due to increasing land demand from the rapidly growing human population.
