Copernicus Emergency Management Service Annual Conference

You are invited to the annual Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) conference to discover how CEMS can help raise awareness of natural hazards, contribute to disaster risk strategies or help strengthen policies.

During the morning session, we will showcase how CEMS has been collaborating with European Commission Directorates-General, Member and Participating States, and the international community, providing early warning and monitoring information on floods, forest fires and droughts.

You will discover how detailed, high-resolution emergency maps help assess risks, prepare for and react to disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones and landslides, among others. You will also discover how CEMS systems help identify populations vulnerable to hazards and support resilient urban planning.

In the afternoon, you will be able to participate in practical workshops and learn how to obtain, customize and use CEMS data.

Background

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) is part of Copernicus, the European Union’s Earth observation programme.
CEMS monitors Europe and the rest of the world for (signals of) disasters by using and modelling satellite information and ground observations.
Scientists working at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre are responsible for implementing CEMS.
