Project

El Copernicus Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean (CopernicusLAC Chile) It is a joint initiative of the European Union and Universidad de Chile, executed by the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) from that academic institution.

Its purpose is to bring the capabilities and benefits of the Copernicus Programme closer to the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), strengthening scientific and technological cooperation around Earth observation.

Through a satellite data storage, processing and distribution infrastructure, CopernicusLAC Chile promotes environmental and territorial monitoring with a regional focus.

The center develops Specialized services in key areas such as land cover and use, urban atlas and coastal monitoring, also integrating on-site data from meteorological stations, ocean buoys, air quality networks, among others.

Furthermore, It offers private cloud and Sentinel data repository services in the region. In this way, CopernicusLAC Chile is consolidated as a regional strategic hub that integrates science, technology and innovation, promoting informed decision-making, sustainable management of the territory and the strengthening of local capacities in Earth observation.
